Introducing AI Sentiment: A Daily Index of How the Market Talks About AI

Everyone has a take on AI, but there has never been a clean, single number for how the conversation itself is trending. AI Sentiment is a daily composite index that aggregates tone across the AI labs, the AI products people actually use, the chipmakers, and the hyperscalers into one reading you can watch move.

There is no shortage of opinions about AI. There is a shortage of measurement. On any given day the conversation swings between "this changes everything" and "the bubble is about to pop," and if you want to know which way the mood is actually leaning, you read a few headlines, scroll some posts, and form a vibe.

We have spent the last year teaching our pipeline to read financial text for tone. Today we are pointing that machinery at the AI complex itself and publishing the result as a daily composite: AI Sentiment.

It lives at app.sentisense.ai/indexes/ai-sentiment.

What AI Sentiment measures

AI Sentiment is a single daily value, scaled from minus 100 (uniformly negative tone) to plus 100 (uniformly positive tone). It captures how news and social commentary spoke about AI over the trailing few days.

It is not a directional bet on any stock. It is not a forecast of where the AI trade goes next. It is a measurement of the tone of the conversation that is happening around AI right now. Some days that conversation is euphoric (a frontier model launch, a blowout earnings print from a chipmaker). Some days it is anxious (a capex-overhang headline, a safety controversy, a "where is the revenue" thread). The index gives you a quick read on which day you are in.

How the basket is built

Most "AI" gauges are really just a basket of semiconductor stocks. That misses most of the story. We treat the AI complex as four groups, weighted by how purely each one is AI:

Group Examples Why
AI labs OpenAI, Anthropic The purest read on AI sentiment. These are entities whose whole identity is AI.
AI products ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, Gemini, Copilot The consumer-facing conversation, and the AI-specific tone for the platforms below, whose corporate sentiment is diluted by everything else they do.
AI compute and infrastructure NVIDIA, AMD, Broadcom, TSMC, Micron The high-volume backbone that keeps the daily reading steady.
AI platforms Microsoft, Alphabet, Meta, Amazon Major AI players, weighted a little lower because AI is only part of their story.

The labs are weighted up because they are the clearest signal of how people feel about AI itself. The platforms are weighted down because their sentiment blends in cloud, ads, devices, and regulation. The product names are what let the index hear the consumer conversation, not just the trading-desk one.

For each day we read the past several days of news and social conversation mentioning each constituent, score the tone of each individual mention, and roll it up into a weighted average. Constituents with thin coverage on a given day are flagged and set aside so a handful of posts cannot swing the index, and they are labeled clearly in the breakdown on the index page.

A few honest notes on the methodology

A daily AI gauge has a couple of traps, and we would rather be upfront about how we handle them.

The weekend problem. News volume falls off on weekends. A naive daily index would dip every Saturday for reasons that have nothing to do with sentiment. We read each day over a trailing five-day window, which spans a full trading week and smooths that pattern out while staying responsive to real shifts.

Thin names. The AI labs and some products get discussed far less than NVIDIA does. Rather than let a quiet name post a noisy reading off a tiny sample, we require a minimum amount of conversation before a constituent counts, and we drop names that go quiet rather than dragging a stale value forward for long.

It reads muted, on purpose, for now. This first version averages raw tone, which naturally compresses toward the middle of the scale. You will see the line move, with a clear arc over time, but it lives closer to the center than the full minus 100 to plus 100 range. A more dynamic version is on the roadmap.

What you can do with it

Watch it alongside the AI trade. When AI Sentiment is fading while the chips keep ripping, that divergence is worth a second look. When it spikes on a model launch, you can see in the basket breakdown which part of the complex drove it: the labs, the products, the chips, or the platforms.

AI Sentiment is newly launched, and like our other indexes it is free to watch. It is a measure of the tone of the conversation, not investment advice, and past readings do not predict future moves.
